OLIVIER GIROUD hailed Arsenal’s £20million swoop for Jamie Vardy and roared: “He is going to help us win the title.”
The France striker’s place could be under threat from the Player of the Year’s imminent arrival from Leicester.
But Giroud, 29, said: “Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news. I think we can be complementary and I am happy with competition.
“He’s a fantastic player — we have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club.”
Leicester are preparing a counter-offer and Vardy, who penned a new £80,000-a-week Foxes deal only in February, is expected to tell Arsenal this morning — before he gets on the England plane to France.
The Gunners have offered a £120,000-a-week, four-year contract.
Giroud scored twice for France in their 3-0 warm-up win over Scotland on Saturday — but he was outscored by Vardy last season.
