Man Shot at White House: 'I Came Here To Shoot People'
Jesse Olivieri, the Pennsylvania man shot by a Secret Service agent at a security checkpoint outside the White House last month, told officials "I came here to shoot people," according to a court document filed Friday.
Olivieri, 31, remains hospitalized after he was shot by a Secret Service agent on May 20. He was charged Friday with using a firearm to interfere with a federal officer.
U.S. Park Police investigators said Olivieri approached a security gate on the White House grounds openly holding a handgun. When he ignored repeated commands to drop the gun, he was shot once.
Asked why he came to the House House, he told a Secret Service officer that he came there "to shoot people," according to court documents.
Law enforcement officials have said they believe it was a case of attempted "suicide by cop."
The incident led to a lockdown of the White House and the closing of streets in the area for several hours. President Obama was away at the time, but Vice President Biden was inside the White House complex, administration officials said.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
