Jonas hector was the hero as the Germany
beat Italy in a competitive fixture for the
first time ever.
Schweinsteiger’s goal was canceled in the
first half after the linesman spotted an
infringment on the far side when the
Manchester United midfielder was adjudged
to have fouled Italian defender De Sciglio.
A neat passing game by Italy opened space
for Sturaro who could have put the Azzuri
ahead before half time but his shot went
wide off the post with Neuer completly
beaten.
Mario Gomez slipped through a defence
splitting pass to Howedes whose deflected
cross found Ozil in the box and the Arsenal
man made no mistakes with the finish to put
Germany ahead.
Italy came back into match through
Bonucci’s converted spot kick after Jerome
Boateng clearly handled the ball in the box
off Chiellini’s header; the score was leveled
at 1-1.
Both teams were tactically disciplined during
the extra time as the chances created in the
match could get the breakthrough for both
teams.
Three spot kicks were missed for the either
but Hector got the decisive penalty as his
spot kick nipped through the arms of the
highly experienced Gianluca Buffon in the
post; it 6-5 in favour of the Germans.
